The Detroit Zoo's Erb Discovery Trails opened in May 2026 and offers seven acres of animal encounters, play spaces, elevated trails, and family-friendly attractions. To support guest comfort and enhance the design of the space, they chose multiple shade structures by Superior Shade for many areas across the zoo.
One of the most visually striking shade structures can be found at Trail Mix, the outdoor dining area just beyond the main entrance. It includes four triangle sail shades in alternating Lime and Turquoise fabric, which add vibrant color that perfectly complements the space.

Within Garden Grove are two triangle sails, which provide shade to a seating area surrounded by a garden of plants and flowers.
Beyond the dining and play spaces, they also chose three Square Cantilever Umbrellas at quiet locations throughout Discovery Trails. The off-center post allows for a bench to be shaded underneath, giving guests a comfortable place to relax between enjoying exhibits.
