In the heart of Atlanta, GA, the Piedmont Park Aquatic Center is a popular summer destination for families, swimmers, and visitors looking for a refreshing place to enjoy the outdoors. To increase guest comfort while preserving the facility's clean aesthetic, they chose a collection of commercial-grade shade structures that provide extensive sun protection throughout the pool area.
This project features a combination of shade structures including a custom 3-Dome Arched Cantilever, two Arched Cantilevers, and one Hexagon Cantilever Umbrella.
Public aquatic centers require shade solutions that not only provide relief from the sun, but also complements the surrounding environment. For Piedmont Park, they chose pool shade solutions that balances durability, aesthetics, and performance.
The focal point of the pool is the custom 3-Dome Arched Cantilever, which provides expansive coverage over a large seating area. The multi-dome and cantilevered design creates visual interest while maximizing the shaded footprint and providing unobstructed views of the pool.
Complementing the larger structure are two Arched Cantilevers, which are strategically placed to provide additional shaded seating areas in high-use areas. Their cantilevered design allows for open movement beneath the structures while delivering reliable UV protection for guests.
On the opposite side of the pool is a Hexagon Cantilever Umbrella, which adds targeted shade coverage without obstructing views of the pool.
An important factor was ensuring the shade structures integrated seamlessly with the existing pool environment. To achieve this, all four shade structures were made with latte colored fabric, which creates a cohesive look throughout the pool area.
The warm neutral tone complements the surrounding architecture and landscaping while providing a sophisticated appearance. Rather than drawing attention away from the pool, the shade structures blend naturally into the design of the space, creating a polished and inviting atmosphere.
The completed project demonstrates how thoughtfully designed commercial shade structures can improve both functionality and visual appeal at pool and aquatic facilities. By incorporating cantilevered shade structures, Piedmont Park provided a shaded pool environment that improves the experience and comfort of guests.
