Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Milwaukee County Zoo of Wisconsin, known for its commitment to animal welfare and conservation, made a heartwarming addition to its family in 2005. Snow Lilly, a beautiful Polar Bear, was welcomed with open arms and placed next to the playful seals. As the zoo continued to prioritize the well-being of its animals, another important request arose - to provide the majestic elephants with a shaded structure of their own.

Recognizing the importance of creating a safe and comfortable environment, the Milwaukee County Zoo partnered with Superior Shade to design and construct unique shades for Snow Lilly, the seals, and the elephants, protecting them from the summer sun.

The result of this collaboration was a remarkable shade hybrid that combined the best of both worlds. A 25' x 10' Sail Shade and a 25' x 23' Cantilever were ingeniously blended together, supported by a single column towering 13' above the ground. The custom shade hybrid provided ample protection from the summer heat and was built to withstand extreme weather, ensuring durability and longevity. Its height was carefully considered to ensure Snow Lilly's safety, preventing her from attempting any adventurous climbs.

Not stopping there, the Milwaukee Zoo went the extra mile to enhance the well-being of its elephants. An Arched Cantilever was strategically utilized in the elephant exhibit, offering a shaded oasis where these magnificent creatures could seek solace from the sun's rays.

The Milwaukee County Zoo's dedication to providing unique and effective shading solutions for its animals is truly inspiring. With their innovative approach and attention to detail, they have set a shining example for other zoos seeking to prioritize the well-being of their animals. By creating a space where Snow Lilly, the seals, and the elephants can thrive and find respite from the summer sun, the Milwaukee County Zoo has once again proven that it is a leader in animal care and conservation.
